Porsche 968 (1992-1995)
The 968 is the final evolution of the 944: a 3.0-litre 16-valve with VarioCam and 240 hp, six-speed manual or Tiptronic, and a body with the nose of the 928. The Club Sport, lighter and stripped of luxuries, is the one purists look for; the Turbo S, with 305 hp and fourteen cars built, is a rarity.
It is the most modern transaxle and the most expensive, and it is worth it: it drives like a current car and is maintained like a classic. With the belts and the VarioCam checked it has no weak points.
What we check on a 968 before selling it
- Timing and balance belts, tensioners and water pump: date and mileage of the last change.
- VarioCam chain tensioner: cold noises and condition of the guides.
- Clutch and six-speed gearbox; on the Tiptronic, shift quality and leaks.
- Cooling, oil leaks and condition of the hydraulic engine mounts.
- Corrosion in wheel arches and underside, hood on the Cabriolet and originality on the Club Sport.
