We have extensive experience repairing classic engines from any marque

An M64 engine only reveals its true condition once it is opened, cleaned, and measured component by component.

One of the departments we are most proud of is our engine shop, where we restore and upgrade power units and gearboxes for all 911 models and other classic Porsches.

In fact, our trade name, Valentín Motors, combines the founder's name with "Motors"—symbolizing the technical expertise our company has possessed since 1979.

An engine shop requires a significant investment in technical resources and know-how. Indeed, even official brand dealerships do not have one.

We have extensive experience with Porsche engines, ranging from the air-cooled units of the 356 to the modern GT3 and CUP engines. We do not simply restore and assemble them to factory specifications; we also enhance and boost their performance based on our own calculations and data.

Having an in-house engine workshop means we do not rely on third parties; this ensures the quality of our project execution and simplifies warranty coverage.

Complete 964 engine rebuild

Across the entire 964 generation, Porsche utilized the 3.600 cc engine block that delivered such reliability and satisfaction to its owners.

Measurements taken with the engine disassembled

Decisions are based on measurements, not the part's appearance.

  • Cylinder ovality and taper.
  • Flatness of the engine block and cylinder heads.
  • Clearances for the crankshaft, connecting rods, and camshafts.
  • Condition of valve guides, seats, and valves.
  • Weight and balancing of the rotating assembly, where applicable.

Complete 965 (964 Turbo) engine rebuild

In 1991, the 911 Turbo model was powered by a supercharged 3,3-liter, 320 hp engine.

Measurements taken before disassembly

An in-house engine workshop ensures that diagnosis, measurement, machining, assembly, and testing all follow the same technical standards.

  • Initial symptoms.
  • Oil and filter.
  • Compression, where applicable.
  • Condition of each assembly.
  • Clearances.
  • Out-of-roundness.
  • Flatness.
  • Part traceability.

An engine being rebuilt doesn't automatically get all new parts.

We work on air- and water-cooled Porsche engines, racing engines, gearboxes, and classic mechanics from other brands covered by the department's experience.

An engine being rebuilt does not automatically receive all new parts. Each component is measured and classified to retain what is still good, correct what is necessary, and present options before assembly.

Our services

The workshop operates on four fronts: Porsche engines from any era, classic engines from other brands, gearboxes, and race preparation.

Each has its own dedicated page detailing what is included and the work involved. Here is what all four share: the workshop itself, the tooling, and the measurement process used before making decisions.

Interview with Iván Bascuñana, Head Engine Technician

What is the most crucial or stressful moment in the process? Checking the oil pressure once the engine is assembled, and then the startup, when you see the result of the entire job. The whole process carries a high level of responsibility, given the high costs involved. What is the main quality of an engine technician? Above all, passion and a constant pursuit of perfection.

What methodology is key for you? Order and a structured process are fundamental to the final result. The engine workshop is a clean, enclosed space where everything is in harmony.

What is more important to you: experience or technique? A combination of both is key. Every day involves a quest for perfection and presents a new challenge.

What processes are carried out in the engine workshop? Disassembly, diagnosis of each part, and inspection of all engine components.

What is the most important phase of engine disassembly or assembly? The most important phase of disassembly is gathering information about the engine; performing a preliminary diagnosis helps guide the process. During assembly, the crucial step is verifying engine tolerances—specifically those of the pistons and cylinders, as well as the oil clearance between the crankshaft and the connecting rod.

What types of measurements are taken? All measurements are equally important. Key measurements include piston-to-cylinder tolerances, oil clearance, and valve lift.

Can we safely modify the factory parameters? Generally, all engines have a safety margin. Manufacturers build in a margin that can be optimized without issues.

What are the advantages of a workshop with a dedicated engine workshop? The main advantage is not relying on third parties—a key factor for warranty and quality. This directly impacts the quality we aim to offer the customer.

Which process is the most complex? Undoubtedly, the timing system—specifically, setting the timing during assembly.

How the engine leaves the workshop

An assembly put together following a strict process, with verified tolerances and a start-up procedure that checks oil pressure, operation, and the results of the work performed.

Depending on the car's condition and intended use, the work can be coordinated with Porsche engines, gearboxes, and racing applications.

01 Can just the engine be sent in?

Yes. Valentín Motors collects engines from across Spain once the unit has been removed from the car. The shipment should include any available information regarding symptoms and previous repairs.

02 When is the true scope of work determined?

After diagnosis and—if the engine needs to be opened—after cleaning and measuring the parts. A preliminary estimate can be provided beforehand, but a definitive assessment regarding hidden damage is not possible until then.
