Porsche 911 type 997 (2004-2012)
The 997 brings back the round headlights and refines the 996 in everything else. The first series (2004-2008) uses M96 and M97 engines of 3.6 and 3.8 litres, with 325 and 355 hp, and Tiptronic or manual; the second (2009-2012) brings direct injection, MA1 engines with 345 and 385 hp and the PDK gearbox. Turbo, GT3 and GT2 use the Mezger architecture until the end of the first series.
It is the modern 911 with the best balance of price, character and reliability, provided one series is properly told from the other. A well-inspected 997.1 is an excellent buy; an uninspected 997.1 can hide the most expensive bill of its life.
What we check on a 997 before selling it
- Bore scoring on the 997.1, especially the 3.8: borescope inspection and oil consumption.
- IMS on the 997.1 up to 2008: the bearing is larger than on the 996 and its condition is checked, not guessed.
- PDK and Tiptronic: oil and filter service, behaviour cold and hot.
- Front radiators and condensers: leaves, corrosion and leaks. It is the 997's silent failure.
- PASM, brake calipers, steering and match of options with the Porsche certificate.
Buying a 997 at Valentín Motors
Every Porsche 997 we sell goes through our 111-point inspection, leaves with a twelve-month or 10,000 km warranty on engine and gearbox, and its certified mileage is stated on the sales invoice. We have been Porsche specialists since 1979, with our own workshops in Barcelona and Madrid: the car you buy here has been on our lift before it reaches your hands.
If you have found the one you want elsewhere, we can also check it for you before you pay for it: pre-purchase inspection.
