Porsche 914 (1969-1976)

The 914 is the mid-engined Porsche born of an agreement with Volkswagen: four-cylinder engines of 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 litres in the 914/4, and the 2.0 flat-six of the 911 T in the 914/6, built only from 1970 to 1972. Removable Targa roof, two boots and handling that anticipated what Porsche would later do with the Boxster.

For decades it was the cheap Porsche; it no longer is, least of all the 914/6. It is bought for the body, which is where all its problems are, and for the originality of the engine.

What we check on a 914 before selling it

  • Sills and the floor under the battery: acid and water eat the chassis. This is the check that decides the purchase.
  • Targa roof, seals and drain channels; floors and pillar bases.
  • Engine: D-Jetronic injection on the injected 914/4, carburettors on the rest; on the 914/6, originality of the engine case.
  • Shift linkage: vague when new, hopeless when worn. Gearbox and clutch.
  • Matching numbers and paperwork, above all on the 914/6.

Buying a 914 at Valentín Motors

Every Porsche 914 we sell goes through our 111-point inspection, leaves with a twelve-month or 10,000 km warranty on engine and gearbox, and its certified mileage is stated on the sales invoice. We have been Porsche specialists since 1979, with our own workshops in Barcelona and Madrid: the car you buy here has been on our lift before it reaches your hands.

If you have found the one you want elsewhere, we can also check it for you before you pay for it: pre-purchase inspection.
